The World Health Organisation has announced Gaming Addiction to be a real thing, but despite what your parents think the criteria isn't as simple as playing games.

As The World Health Organisation has added Gaming Disorder to its Diagnostic book defining it as:
- Impaired control over gaming.
- Increasing priority given to gaming over other activities to the extent that gaming takes precedence over other interests.
- Continuation or escalation of gaming despite the occurrence of negative consequences.

While experts argue that they don’t know enough about the subject to claim that gaming disorder exist and that the evidence is inconsistent and that the criteria is too broad.

A physiologist at Oxford Internet Institute has stated that “You could easily replace the word ‘gaming’ and replace it with the word ‘sex’ or ‘food’”, claiming that anything can really be addictive if not moderated. He further states that “we don’t know what features make gaming addictive so it’s too broad to be helpful”.

What’s your thoughts on Gaming Disorder? Do you think this is a serious issue that we should be concerned about? Let us know in the comments!

Gaming Addiction is obviously very real and there is plenty of people that game too much or will let gaming prioritise other life experiences.

This being said, I don't think this is necessarily a disorder, this is just another thing that is simply addictive. Being addicted to loads of other things is not necessarily a disorder, although maybe being negatively portrayed in society, so being a "gameaholic" is not a disorder. I personally believe it is all just a bit stupid and another attempt at a scientific breakthrough that will never really ever take off.
